Day 9: 25!!
August 31, 1996: The day we got married! It was hot (no big shocker for Texas in August!). But, it was also rainy! It was SO rainy that Brad's dad wondered if anyone would come to the wedding! 😳 But they did! We had a big Texas church wedding, around 750 people! When you're offering wedding cake, grooms cake, punch, and a fruit tower...people tend to show up! We said "I DO", lightening struck and the power went out! Unlike Alanis Morrisette, we looked at it as a good sign! And apparently it was! A week later, we had a reception in California for Brad's family friends, college friends, etc. But Alanis, is IS IRONIC that we ended up spending our 25th Anniversary here!
I started out my day with a long walk on the beach. Time to reflect on 25 years. Avoiding washed up jelly fish and kelp. Trying not to obviously stare at people in their interesting swimsuit choices (I was glad I had on sunglasses). Wondering how much the old men with metal detectors actually find. And, watching the sandpipers. Sandpipers have a pretty tough gig. The only thing good they've really got going for them is the view at their workplace and the fact they've got long, skinny, tanned legs. They don't fly that well. They don't really like water that much, but they've got to be ready when that tide starts rolling back out so they can see the little sand crab and other sea critters blow out air. They literally get sand in their beak ever time you eat. And when they do get a nasty little sand crab, a damn seagull tries to take it from them!

Obviously I got a little distracted from my zen reflection walk, but what I did discover is what I wanted to do to celebrate!
Brad had planned a romantic dinner out, so I think he was surprised when I told him I'd really rather stay at the beach house, watch the sunset, play backgammon, and order burritos from our favorite local hole-in- the-wall, Mr. Ruribertos! He looked a, little surprised, but I know the way to this man's heart...Carne Asada!!
Feliz aniversario, mi amor!❤🥂
